The Evolution from Life-Long Athlete to Fitness Coach
What led you to be so passionate about fitness?
I grew up playing soccer my entire life. With lots of dedication and determination, I was able to play at the University of Connecticut throughout college. During that time, I developed a strong passion for the fitness side of training, I went on to coach soccer and teach speed and agility training after graduating from school. I have been a Coach at Anytime Fitness for two years, where I have translated my determination with soccer into helping clients hit their goals. We have an amazing community of coaches throughout our Connecticut clubs who I look to when I want to expand my knowledge and expertise in the field.
What do you love about being a Coach?
I love the relationships I have with my clients and the members of the club. I love that I can be a part of their fitness journey and help them become the best version of themselves.
I enjoy coaching people of all different ages and experience levels. I love working with kids throughout their developmental stages into adolescence and working with athletes to improve their speed and agility. I also love working with seniors and seeing how the movements we do during sessions directly impact their everyday lives.
For Jesse, AF is More than a Gym; It’s a Family
There are many places you could work — Why Anytime Fitness?
Anytime Fitness is unlike any other gym in the sense that we try to know each member that walks through our doors and truly connect with them. The focus is on creating the best possible atmosphere for everyone in the club! There’s nothing better than watching complete strangers become accountability partners in the gym and push each other to their potential during our coaching sessions.
We hold monthly club events here in Farmington where we come together as a community and get to know each other on a more personal level. I love watching the group grow each month with new members and seeing so many people participate. The gym is more than a place to work out — it’s a family.
What are some qualities you have that make you an effective Coach?
My clients would describe me as a caring and knowledgeable coach. I like to focus on the issues of each client and see them as a whole person, which dictates how we approach meeting their goals.
What do you do when you’re not coaching?
When I’m not training you can find me hiking around the state with my dog Sunny or watching my favorite soccer team Liverpool FC.
